The enriched history of archery

The amount of time archery has been around is a hotly debated subject between scholars. The closest most can figure is about 10,000 through 50,000 years. It was first used for hunting and war but later, around the 1900 it became a sport. It was one of the first Olympic sports that aloud women to compete.

There are many types of bows including recurve bows which have a really weird design that allows you to shoot a longer length with a lighter draw weight. The second is a long bow which is a piece of springy wood normally made of yew or elm which are some of the hardest wood types which still have a bit of spring.  Last but definitely not least is  the compound bow. It is a bow that uses wheels to possible to shoot a heavier draw weight with a smaller amount of work. There’s also crossbow’s but that’s technically not archery.

The second part of archery is the arrow. There are many types of arrow but they are measured for a persons wing span. There are many types of arrows. The most common design is a shaft with three feathers on one end and a head at the top. Some of the best wood types for making an arrow shaft is birch or port oxford cedar. They are some of the hardest types of wood and are stiff not springy.

Some of the best shots in history used longbows such as Robin Hood who is thought to actually have been real just und er a different name. He was able to shoot a longbow with a astounding draw weight of over a hundred pounds. That meant he would have been able to hit a target accurately at over a hundred meters.
